The European Cross-Country Championships is a significant event in the athletics calendar, showcasing the best athletes from across the continent competing in a thrilling test of endurance and skill. Being selected for the national team is a huge honour, reflecting the athletes’ hard work and talent. This year, the championships will take place in Antalya, Turkey, amidst picturesque landscapes that will provide a stunning backdrop for the competition. For Pierre Boudy and Donovan Christien, representing their country at this event is not just about running; it’s about pride, competition, and the culmination of years of dedication to their sport.

In a thrilling announcement made on Wednesday, 27th November, two extraordinary athletes from Tours, Pierre Boudy and Donovan Christien, have conquered their way into the French selection for the upcoming European Cross-Country Championships. This prestigious event will unfold on 8th December in the stunning landscapes of Antalya, Turkey. With Boudy representing the Under-23 category and Christien competing in the elite ranks, both will proudly fly the flag for their team, Free Run Athlé 37.

Their journey to the European stage began at the international cross in Allonnes on 17th November, a testing ground that determined the national team composition. At just 20 years old, Boudy surged forward, finishing 16th overall but clinching the title of the third-best U23 runner, securing his spot with a remarkable determination that echoes throughout his career. Having previously earned a bronze medal at the French Cross Championships, he now brings experience and ambition to the continental arena.

On the other hand, Donovan Christien’s entry into the squad is a delightful twist of fate. Despite initially being in doubt after finishing 10th at Allonnes as the sixth Frenchman, he seized an unexpected opportunity when compatriot Jimmy Gressier opted out of the event. This unexpected turn could herald a new chapter for Christien, who fondly recalls his triumph in 2022, where he claimed gold as part of a stellar team in Turin, alongside athletes who now feel like family. This year, as he dons the colours of Free Run, a sense of exhilaration courses through him, blending challenge with deep camaraderie.
