From November 25 to December 1, champions of the April 2024 French Cup are on a mission to dispel the notion that disability is a limitation. “Disability can affect anyone, at any time,” asserts Kamel Saouchi, the team’s passionate coach, as he sets the stage for a series of enlightening events that aim to foster inclusivity and understanding.
The unique world of handifoot, where teams comprise six players—each amputated below the ankle—and a goalkeeper, defies conventional barriers. They play with fervour, eschewing their prosthetics to embrace the game, relying on crutches to navigate the field. This remarkable adaptation serves as a poignant reminder of strength and resilience amidst adversity. Alongside them stands the École active artistique de Béziers, a haven for children facing educational challenges, guided by innovative teaching methods that nurture growth and creativity.
Kamel Saouchi, along with his team and the school’s director, Adeline Codina, will engage with students across five local institutions, including the Jules-Ferry College in nearby Cazouls-lès-Béziers. They will share heartfelt stories that resonate deeply: differences are not hindrances but rather a source of strength. Following this, the team continues their mission at institutions such as Krafft and the École active artistique, culminating with a vibrant public event on November 30.
